Summer of Canning

This past few months I have canned more things than i think I have canned in my whole life! I got into the groove of canning & it no longer was a chore, I canned something every weekend since May!! There was of course fruit jams, dilly beans & pickles. The pickles were a bit of a let down but I have learned that you MUST slice off the tips of the cukes before pickling them. For some reason they get soggy if you don't. Lesson learned but my wonderful hubby Mark eats them anyway. I also did Bread & butter pickles for the first time ever(still cannot eat them tho) Mark asked & I did them for him. I have gotten quite good at Salsa and even sell it at my craft fairs!! We have to say we eat at least 5 jars a week!! Nothing better than fresh tomato salsa!. BountifulBaskets.org has helped me make all kinds of goodies. It is a fresh fruit & veggie co~op I participate in every week!! $16.50 & I get 2 big baskets of fruit & veggies a week!! We never know what is in the baskets that I get up VERY (4am) on Saturdays to help unload the truck, sort & load up baskets for everyone to pick up!! I love watching the faces of all those early risers when they see what is in the baskets!! There's always something different, I learned about Jerusalem artichokes, anise, Jicama and a few other things. we all talk about the odd things and learn from others who know what it is!! Fun times!!
This coming year I plan on a garden so I might not get weekly baskets if I can grow my own food!! I also want to try chickens if I can talk Mark into them. Some neighbors have them and I would love to be able to have my own fresh eggs too!! We'll see!!
Right now my food storage is brimming with salsa, jams, tomato sauce,dilly beans, pickles and a couple dozen jars of dilly asparagus. My friend has told me she will show me how to use my pressure canner so I see meats & veggies in jars in my near future.
It's been a good summer & will be a tasty winter!!

Well I have been quite busy lately,

I am making the most of Summer fruit by making Jam almost every weekend & I have learned to make Salsa this year!! ^ I am making Tote bags out of Quilt squares and they are so very cute!!
Oh yes, I am still making Fleece Blankets & knifty knitting hats!! AND still making the beaded necklaces out of Amber !! Dang I am busy!! AND I am working 4 days now too!! Now if I can get my house to miraculously clean itself, I will be fine!

This weekend is Goodsprings Daze!! I have a craft booth and hopefully will sell some things!! October 8th there will be the Sandy Valley Craft fair & I always do well there!

Remembering

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the summer. (Daddy never wore his white shoes before this day.) Everyone gathers to have BBQs and sometimes too much to drink. Major businesses have big sales, best time to get new furniture or a new outfit,Sadly Police set up drunk driving hot spots to get those that over-indulgent, but what is this holiday really? It is a day to remember those who died for our freedom, those who fought an enemy we may never know, those who spent years of their lives away from family and loved ones! I was born during the Korean War while my dad, who was lucky enough to be home for my birth, was fighting on foreign soil! I thank him and my Uncle Jim Schneider, Uncle Bob Schneider and so many people who I know that fought in this war as well as the Viet Nam war, and the Iran/Iraq was and now the was in Afghanistan. Back in the beginning of the Viet Nam war I got a metal bracelet with the name Kevin Anderson on it, It was all the rage to have these bracelets with soldiers names on them, Turned out this young man had worked at my local A & P supermarket and sadly died over there. I was devastated as a young girl. I had never really met him but the connection was there… Thank you Kevin Anderson, for your service!! I stop and thank anyone who is in soldier garb for their service whenever I see them.
My only regret on this Memorial Day is that I am not back in NY to lay flowers on my Daddy’s grave, My mom is there also and I wish the same for her. I can only hope that some Boy Scout troop has taken it upon itself to lay flowers or Flags on ALL the graves. I miss you Daddy and thank you for the service to your country! Thank you also to any service member who reads this!! Thank a service member the next time you see them for the freedoms you enjoy!!

Spring Fling Craft Fair

So I signed up for the SpringFling craft fair in SandyValley at the Keystone center, but then I thought, Knit hats & Scarves might not sell too well in the springtime,so,,,,,,,I stole an idea from a fashion show I went to!! Lets just say I am tuned into the spring & summer fashions!! Let's just say "you'll FLIP over my newest creations" & "You won't be a FLOP on the fashion scene" Come visit my booth & see what I have for sale!! May 1, Saturday Keystone Center, Sandy Valley NV!! There will be other booths full of crafts, snacks, bakery items, & Breakfast ,Lunch & Dinner!!

Finally! a Diagnosis!!

OK so I went to the DR and then to the X-ray and then called the dr and "nurse' said oh nothing on the x-ray, but I insisted on seeing the dr anyway, so I get an appt and get in to see him and lo and behold, he said from the x-rays I have degenerative arthritis AKA Osteoarthritis!! I told him I called and the nurse said nothing to worry about, He told me to ALWAYS speak to him, not the nurse!! Ok so now we know what it is and he changed my pain meds to something that works!! Tramadol is my new best friend!! It relieves the pain and doesn't make me groggy!! OH happy day!! I am continuing with my vitamin regime adding a few joint healthy vits and continuing to lose the weight! Dr sez every lb I lose is 5 lbs of pressure off my knee!! So I have lost 150 lbs of pressure off my knee so far!! Ya for me and I can't wait to lose more! Clothes are looser,everything is getting more comfortable too. Will start doing exercises for the knees to try to help relieve even more pain! A good nights sleep is wonderful and the wondering of what's wrong with me is gone(read this as NO CANCER)
Gettin old is tough but it's better than the alternative!!

Pain

Used to be I would take an asprin and sleep all night! Now I take an Ibuprofen 800, Soma and warm milk and I am up at 4 am!! What gives? This knee problem has to have an end soon. Dr sent me for x~rays friday and need to talk to him about the results tomorrow,,,it's always there in the back of my mind,,,, maybe thats why I am awake still. Well can't wait till tomorrow!,,,I think,

Camping!

Well we went on the annual Easter camp trip up to Sunnyside NV to fish, camp and enjoy each other's company!! We had all kinds of weather, Sun everyday for a bit, Rain some of the time, wind alot of the time and hail and snow on the last day!! But they caught fish and we cooked and camped and ate and knitted and yakked for 4 days! Got to see niece Kaitlin & nephew Tyler for the first time in a few years, older but just as cute as ever! Hunter terrorized everyone with his fun antics, I say terrorize in a nice way!! He's a cutie pie for sure!! Crista & Jr were great to have around!! We missed Uncle Billy & Piper a lot and talked about them! Crista wanted to know why he can't come fishing with us, I had to tell her they lived too far away & she decided he should come next year coz they came a long way to go camping so He should too!!!Gotta love the innocence of children!3 campers, 3 boats &14 people ranging from 1 1/2 to 70 something! WE HAD FUN!!!

KNEES

Awhile back my knees started hurting, couldn't get upright away from a kneeling position, so I prayed a bit more(on those knees) and they still didn't feel better. OK so I ignore the pain and carry on as usual...Mom showed me a fun thing when first standing up, stand there for a second, letting things settle, this works!! Still, it's tougher every week. I think ok it must be the weight, Thanx to my hubby, my friends and USANA, I start to lose weight, 27 lbs so far and , nope, the knees don't feel better, in fact they are getting worse, so I finally make an appointment for a dr. Having no insurance means a clinic, find one and can't get in till April 9th! But itis hurting to the point that I can't sleep and I decide to go to a quick care center, what a miserable mistake. I think that since it's a clinic too, it wont be expensive, well I only had $45 and they embarrassed me to death because its $75 for the visit but they ended taking my $ and will bill me for the balance,,ugh. Anyway the visit lasted 3 1/2 hours,5 mins of with a dr who said he could write me pain scrips "IF" I make payment beforehand(?????) He said it "COULD" be a sprained ligament but since I dont have insurance he can't do a MRI (???) I leave there with my leg aced up and 2 scrips for pain meds,knowing I will be charged for the ace bandages too!!!
I will keep my clinic appt because I know I can't possibly be treated any worse than this UMC QuickCare. They already know I have no insurance.
It amazes me how when one part of our bodies doesn't work right, how out of whack the entire body is! Because the right knee hurts the most I have been favoring it and now my left calf has been cramping up at night! The Pain meds do help me sleep tho!!and sleeping makes me a happier person!!
Not having insurance stinks because I know now that dr.'s treat people differently when they dont have it!

Just became overwhelmed with love for everyone I know!!People in my life have no idea what they do for me and how I feel about them. Sometimes I think back to times before and know in my heart that every single person has come into my life for a specific reason and tho I did not see it at the time, I know it was good! Lazy Sundays

Today was one of those Sundays where I just didn't get up and motivated until it was too late to go to Church!! Hate when I do that but Mark was the same way too, both of us snoring away the morning! But I guess we just needed it!
I am embarking on a new thing. One of my customers works at a cancer care place not far from the bookstore and she came in while I was having lunch and making yet another hat. We got to talking and I told her I am a survivor and we (the seniors & I) had made hats for chemo patients and I was always making some for friends & family and she asked if I was willing to show how to her people. Well of course I said Yes, why not share my gift with others? I plan on leaving a bunch of yarn and some looms so someone else can do hats too, who knows maybe I will go back after the first time. I am pleased to be clean from cancer for almost 9 years now so why shouldn't I pay it back? Wish me luck!

Happy New Year 2010, so is it two thousand ten or twenty ten? Either way I had certainly hoped for my hover car by now or maybe my automatic kitchen, ask for something and, blam, it's in front of us!! What about the room which turns into different experiences?? So much for the "FUTURE" Here it is and well, lets see, i do have that microwave that makes popcorn in a couple minutes or heats my hot cocoa in a min!! And how many times have I stood in front of it and thought, come on hurry!!
Anyway,,,,It started off a great year, we had Crista & Jr here overnight and celebrated Midnight New York time! Works for me and it worked for them too!! We took off in the morning for the craft store and got "stuff" to do, Painted, crafted and talked all afternoon, I love my grand kids! they are so creative and interesting. And as a BONUS, I now have multicolored bird house for Grandpa to hang up!! I think we used just about every color in the rainbow! And I do believe the trees are now big enough to actually hold a birdhouse! Ya for us.
This year has got to be better than last year, I am blessed still with a job, 3 days a week at the bookstore. Love the place! Mark's business has tanked a bit but he is always picking up work along the way, sometimes paid, sometimes bartered for something we need.too often as a favor. But we are surviving by the Grace of God! We love each other and have a paid for roof over our heads!! We try to keep the bills to a minimum and will survive!! Food Storage Is GOOD!! Thank you President Hinkley for drilling that into my head!!
Don't know if anyone ever reads these blogs, but they are merely for my own self,if no one else! Happy New Year 2010!!

Things about Mark & I

Mark and I met May 16th 1996 at Blueberry Hill restaurant, I had picked him out of a book at a dating agency, he ok'd the pick and we met! Spent 7 hours in the diner and talked about EVERYTHING!! I had no idea he had to travel home 45 mins and then turn around a few hours later to go to work at 6 am! Our next date was shorter but great and our third date was the movies Mission Impossible, with David and applebees after. Things rushed along and we were married on July 27, 1996~727, an airplane so he can remember. We have had our ups and downs but all in all its been so far a great ride!! We have blended the families and have 4 grand children.
Mark's business has slowed down but he has been finding work everywhere and is keeping busy, I am pleased that he is so handy and able to support our little family! I am working at Amber Unicorn books 3 days a week and am crazy busy on the weekends(wish that would stop) Mark is the Elder's Quorum President and I have just been released from the Relief society presidency( YAAAA) He is still looking forward to camping a few more times this winter, don't quite understand camping in the freezing cold, but he loves the solitary time, tho the last time he went he said he wished I was with him all alone in the mountains, aww I loved that thought! I am still hooked on yarn and am always knifty knitting hats!! Did some craft shows and made some $, enough to keep my addiction going!! We are a comfortable married couple that enjoy each others company most of the time!! We keep "things" alive too but that's too personal!! I love my life here in Goodsprings with the best guy around!!

Andrea Bocelli

Once again I won tickets from the KDWN radio station and Heidi Harris show! This time to see Andrea Bocelli!! Decided it was a good idea to take friend Karen because our freindship had waned lately and needed to be renewed!! Found out a few things about her too, but that's another story,,, Karen drove as my Requip makes me unable to drive after 8pm, the time of the concert! We left here at 6:15 pm and got gas, dropped Sarah at her friend's and hit the freeway, Oh my goodness!! Backed up on the exit ramp, backed up on Tropicana and it took 35 mins to go 2 miles,because everyone had to be in our lane to turn into the MGM and they were all in the wrong lane, Karen is as bad as me in no patience with jerks on the road and the so called 'nice' cars that let the fools in our lane!!! Anyway then had to park on the 5th level as the valet was full, the escalaters were broken and it was already 8:30!! Walked about 2 miles thru the casino, shops and hallways,,,finally got to the arena and there is crowds filing in , all late like us!! Funny lady takes our ticket saying, Andrea Bocelli didn't wait for you, Ha Ha! finally found our seats, some guy is in one of our seats goes oopps and moves,settle in for an AMAZING CONCERT!! Cried at various parts but it was GREAT!! We figured out during the intermission that karen and I have gone to more concerts together than with anyone else!! We saw Davey Jones,FREE I won tix,Chigago, Karen got freebies, Engelbert Humperdink, Karen's freebies, but was cancelled after we got in our seats, he was sick, and the this concert!! I have also won Bette Midler tix last summer and took Myrna.
Ok so we are on the way out of the arena like a herd of cattle, slow moving and only 2 sets of doors out!! took 35 mins to even get out of the shuffling madness, needless to say my meds make me weird on regular nights but here it is 11 pm and I am loopy by now!! We got ice cream at Haggen Daz~$16 bucks for 2 sundaes, walking out to the car I got all woozy and nauseas, that passed when we sat in the car, It took 5 mins to get to the freeway!YAA But on the way home I had her pull over and lost my sundae!! Darn,$8 bucks tossed on the side of the road! Karen is a great friend to have put up with me!!We had a great time cept for the traffic, herding and puking!! Hope I can win more concert tickets soon!!

Craft Fairs!

I have done very well at the craft fairs with my addictions!! At the PinkPeas openhouse/craft fair i sold a ton of hats and this past weekend at the Sandy Valley Culturati Craft Fair I sold hats, Fleece blankets and neck rests!! Made more than enough money to pay myself back for supplies and to continue the addiction!! A friend on FB said she added it all up and has 27 MILES of yarn and I do believe I have more than she has!! I just can't help myself!!! If I see the sale I have to have!!and have to have in all the colors!! Thrift stores are wonderful for yarn!! After spraying it all down with Lysol, I wind up balls and get to work, I am almost never without a project on the loom, There is one in the truck, one at work and 2 or 3 at home too!! At least this is a legal addiction!! Pat said our senior group needs more men's hats for the homeless so here is another opportunity for me to give back!! I am even knitting now ehile on the internet!! Cna't stand to wait for my dial-up to go from page to page!! Love to knit!!!

The temp was on the cool side these past few nights, which means Autumn is here. Wish the trees would change but they don't do that here in Nevada, just one day you go outside and all the leaves have dropped off the trees! I miss the New York Autumns but not the rest of the year there!! And I miss my friends so much too.

Being Present

Working at a bookstore, I don't exactly get to read...just skim books so when someone has a semi-vague idea of a book they are looking for,I can have a semi-vague idea of which book it is. Anyway I had a book being processed today and opened it to a section talking about "being Present in the Moment" How many of us show up but aren't really "there"?? Everyone raise your hand!

We go to work, sit at our desk and do things by rote, checking the clock for when lunch time is, then show back up to the desk and watch for the go home time. Do we LOVE our jobs? So many can't say Yes! ( I LOVE my job!!thank goodness)

Do we LOVE our Families?? Can you say you are overjoyed to drive up the driveway and get home? When you hear the door open, do you stop what you are doing to greet your kids or spouse?

Ice Candles

Take a clean milk carton, the square waxy paper kind. Let it dry after cleaning it. tie a long wick onto a pencil and place onto the top of the container. Melt wax in a double boiler, use a pan you dont want anymore, melt wax, leftover candle butts etc. while wax is melting fill carton with ice, pack it in there!Center the wick OK Heres the fun part....put this ice filled container on spread out papers to protect your counter , carefully but quickly add the wax to the ice, fill it up to the top. wait about 10 mins. pour out the water and let candle rest for about an hour. Peel off the container from the candle and admire your excellent creation! Clip off the pencil and enjoy the candle, remember to burn it on a plate so no wax melts onto counter!

Waste Not~Want Not

What happened to me? I remember my parents reusing EVERYTHING!! We would use milk cartons for Ice Candles* Reusing Foil by washing it and smoothing it out, Carefully folding up paper bags to save for lots of craft projects from balloon paper mache stuff to covering our school books. I remember saving soda bottles to take to the store where we got a few cents off the next few bottles of soda we bought! AND these sodas were few and far between too! I drink somedays 5 sodas a day now,UGH! When my oldest son was little we would save cans to take to the A&P and stick them in a machine that ground them up and gave him a nickle each! If they brought those machines back we could probably recycle every can in the US.
Gramma had the tinyest little garbage can in her kitchen, the size of my wastebasket in the bathroom... and she only emptied it a couple times a week! All the veggie peelings went to the garden, all the paper from the meat went to the sink or formed into a small bag for the peelings and then dug into the ground to feed the plants, most liquids came in bottles, milk was delivered in the early morning a couple times a week and if it was winter, we got the cream all frozen for breakfast!!What a treat!! Hersheys syrup from a can poured over the frozen cream, OH MY GOODNESS!!
During the summer, the ice cream man came by everyday and we got popsicles and saved the sticks so we could make little snowflakes in the winter, glitter and glue and some time, boy was that fun! Now we go to walmart and buy the sticks in a bag or , worse buy the homemade snowflakes at a craft fair!! again UGH!
What happened to us?? Let us all decide today to save stuff, reuses stuff and try to make just a little less garbage this week!

Blast from the Past

This past week was exciting! I got a message that someone on Classmates had left me a note. Well of course I go to read it and its a puzzle....What did Lincold do for the slaves? Made them Freeman...Which is the name of the street I grew up on. It is signed Michael J (won't finish to protect his privacy till I ask him) Ok so I am curious, I really don't remember this guy so I send a note back,"who are you?" He writes back that we had dated for 2 months and I dumped him before new years back in 1978! Still no recollection! Have all my old brain cells died?? So I ask a bunch of questions relating to guys I dated back in those days,,,,well none of them are him(EMBARRASSING!!) Mark thinks it's funny that i cannot remember him. Ok another email comes from Mike with his CB handle the Professor!! AH HA Now I know who it is!! Whoo Hoo I am not totally brain dead!! Memories flood back and I remember but am still fuzzy. Anyway he's doing ok and is married, for 30 years !! 4 kids and 1 grandchild!! I give him all my catch-up info about my wonderful Mark and the kids and grandkids and there ya go. We shared some good, special time together but I was a young, single mother, selfish with my time and struggling to find my way and broke his heart right before the New Year celebration. I sometimes dislike the person I was but know it has made me the person I am. I hope to keep a dialog going with Mike and get to know his family too!! It sure is fun to go back in time!

Hats

I have a new passion, Hats made on the Knifty Knitter. I believe I have made at least 100 of them in all different sizes, from Newborn size to adult size. I am now a yarn junkie, I see it on sale, I gotta buy it, I want to hook all my friends too, So far I got Kathy hooked, even gave her some yarn to keep her going!! Hehehe, Thanx to Pat for showing me how to do this and getting my hooked. Here are some Pix, The red & White on is made & modeled by Kathy,Red& Purple by me and the Pink & Fucia made by me and modeled on my granddaughter, Plus all the hats our senior groups made for Chemo patients and newborns!!

I am planning on showing my motherin law and sisters in law how to do these too and get the whole family in on it!! Watch yourself or I will get you addicted too!!

Hunter

Hunter is our fourth grandchild and the nearest one to us. We get to have him over alot which is a true blessing!! This weekend we had him so his mom & dad could go to the races. He is all Grandpa's boy!! I am ok to have around as long as we are alone, but once Grandpa walks in all I get is "NO" Too Cute! Gotta love him!!

Life is GOOD

The weather has been GREAT these past few weeks! Not at all like a regular Las Vegas June!!Windows are open and blankets or on the bed!! I LOVE IT! If someone was to visit here this week they would want to move here! By the time they do mobve it would be August and it would be like HELL here!! But what the heyyy, I live here and love it coz I am adaptable!

We have lost a dear friend who lost his Cancer battle this month. But as I know what a good and true member of the Church he is I know where he has ended up, and I do mean up!! We will miss his person but have his spirit with us always! God bless you Tom Kenney!! See ya!

Mother's Day

I have very mixed emotions about mother's day. I wasn't always the nicest mom to my boys, I wasn't "there" for them, I worked so much and wasn't the nicest person to begin with! I like to think I am a better person and a better mom now tho. I do my best to be a great Gramma and hope my grandchildren have wonderful memories down the road of me! Someone asked me what Mothers day means to me and I could first only think about how it was when I was a kid. My sister and I stripped Mommy's lilac bush almost every Mother's dayto give her big bouquets of flowers and made burnt breakfast for her. Lilacs always remind me of my mom. My boys loved me and gave me cards every mother's day, even burnt breakfast in bed! My mom is gone now but I know she watches over me. Happy Mother's day to all the wonderful women in my life who in any way mothered me!!

What a Day!

What a wonderful day this has been! Our stake had a track meet today and my wonderful husband Mark ran the 5K!! Came in under 42 mins and # 141 out of nearly 500 competitors!! Who woulda thought he had it in him??? I am one proud wifey!!
While there setting up our area in the stands, I see someone I think I know from a way long time ago!! I watch for a few minutes and then go over and holler her name!! Leah?? Oh my goodness,,It is her!!! I haven't seen Leah in over 15 years!! I am so excited and so is she!! She doesn't live here but is visiting her sister Tasha, We all worked together years ago when I first moved to Vegas in Morrow's nut house!!. Neither one of us were members of the Church then but the boss was. I wonder is Sallie Adair knows about the seeds she planted all those years ago! Anyway, we exchanged #s and she wants to move back to vegas area and I cannot wait to get together with her and share whats gone on in the last million years!!! Well, in this age of "instant" everything, I have been able to get in touch with people I have not seen in many years! Found my old next door neighbor on Facebook, High school buddies on Myspace and Facebook and I meet the nicest people just talking about computers and blogging. Met a nice woman named Linda when she came into the bookstore to find a book on blogging, Told her to use it as a journal,I do. We got to talking and come to know we have so much in common, both LDS, both wanting to keep in touch with family, both wonderful women!! I love making new friends on the "net" and in person! As someone once told me "I have never met a stranger"

Dog Poop Brownies

Many parents are hard pressed to explain to their youth why some music,movies, books, and magazines are not acceptable material for them to bring into the home or to listen to or see. One parent came up with an original idea that is hard to refute.
The father listened to all the reasons his children gave for wanting tosee a particular PG-13 movie. It had their favorite actors. Everyone else was seeing it. Even church members said it was great. It was only rated PG-13 because of the suggestion of sex--they never really showed it. The language was pretty good--the Lord's name was only used in vain three times in the whole movie. The teens did admit there was a scene where a building and a bunch ofpeople were blown up, but the violence was just the normal stuff. It wasn't too bad. And, even if there were a few minor things, the special effects were fabulous and the plot was action packed. However, even with all the justifications the teens made for the PG-13rating, the father still wouldn't give in. He didn't even give his children a satisfactory explanation for saying, "No." He just said,"No!"
A little later on that evening the father asked his teens if they would like some brownies he had baked. He explained that he'd taken the family's favorite recipe and added a little something new. The children asked what it was. The father calmly replied that he had added dog poop. However, he quickly assured them, it was only a little bit. All other ingredients were gourmet quality and he had taken great care to bake the brownies at the precise temperature for the exact time. He was sure the brownies would be superb. Even with their father's promise that the brownies were of almost perfect quality, the teens would not take any. The father acted surprised. After all, it was only one small part that was causing themto be so stubborn. He was certain they would hardly notice it. Still the teens held firm and would not try the brownies. The father then told his children how the movie they wanted to see was just like the brownies. Our minds are tricking us into believing that just a little bit of evil won't matter. But, the truth is even a little bit of poop makes the difference between a great treat and something disgusting and totally unacceptable. The father went on to explain that even though the movie industry would have us believe that most of today's movies are acceptable fare for adults and youth, they are not.
Now, when this father's children want to see something that is ofquestionable material, the father merely asks them if they would like some brownies.
That closes the subject.

A Dozen uses for Lemons

Lemon is an amazing fruit that is not only nutritious and delicious but also has a plethra of uses around the home! Here are a dozen or so tricks to try (in no particular order):
1) Freshen your refrigerator: Place half of a lemon on a saucer and set it in the back of your fridge for a day. The lemon will absorb the odors in your fridge while putting off a fresh clean scent.
2) Microwave Cleaner: Take half of a lemon, place it in a microwave safe bowl, and cover it with water (or use 4 tbsp of lemon juice to one cup of water). Place the bowl in the microwave oven and microwave it for 5 minutes. Carefully remove the bowl as it will be HOT! Wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp sponge, cloth, or paper towel. All food splatters should wipe off easily from the inside walls.
3) Soothing Sunburns: Mix one part lemon juice with one part water* in a bowl, jar, or bottle. Apply the solution liberally with a cotton ball using a gentle dabbing motion. The solution acts as an astringent, relieving the pain and heat. Abstain from direct sunlight after applying this solution.*One part means one of whatever form of measurement you want to use - cup, tablespoon, ounce, milliliter.
4) Eliminate Lime Scale and Hard Water Deposits: Rub the lime scale with half of a lemon (peel side up), and the lime scale should come off easily. If a little more scrubbing power is desired, sprinkle the meaty side of the lemon half with salt before rubbing. For glass shower doors, apply lemon juice with a clean sponge, then dry with newspaper.
5) Brighten and Whiten Fingernails: If your fingernails have turned yellow and brittle from repeated manicures and polish, soak your nails in lemon juice for 10 minutes, then dip them in a mixture of one part vinegar to one part water. This should whiten, brighten, and strengthen your fingernails.
6) Blackhead Removal, Pimple Relief, and Blemish Reduction: Before turning in for the night, gently dab lemon juice on your face with a cotton ball or cotton pad. In the morning, wash your face with cool water, and the blackheads should be diminished if not gone completely (it may take several days of using this method for some to disappear). To eliminate pimples, dab with lemon juice several times a day until the pimple is gone, usually in only 24 hours if you can refrain from picking at it. For blemish reduction, make a mixture of 2 parts lemon juice to one part honey and apply to face. Honey has natural astringent properties as well as moisturizing.
7) Relieve Bloating and Sluggishness: Before breakfast, mix one teaspoon of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one cup of warm water. Drink. This helps kick-start your body's elimination processes.
8) Remove Smells and Stains from Hands: Rub hands with lemon juice or a piece of lemon to remove smells such as garlic, onion, or fish, or stains from berries and fruits. Rinse with water and the smells and stains should be gone.
9) Stop Bleeding and Disinfect Minor Wounds: Apply lemon juice, either directly or with a cotton ball, to the wound and the bleeding should stop (this is not to be used for puncture wounds). For canker sores or other sores in the mouth, either dab with lemon juice or gargle and swish with a solution of one part lemon juice to one part water.
10) Brighten Whites Without Bleach: Add 1/2 cup of lemon juice along with your normal detergent and wash as normal. This is especially great for cloth baby diapers because the lemon juice also acts as a disinfectant. Hang to dry in the sun for ultimate whitening and disinfecting.
11) Clean and Sanitize a Dishwasher: After removing all dishes, add 1/4 cup of lemon juice to the soap dispenser and run the dishwasher through a normal cycle. This will also help remove the mineral deposits that can make spots on your dishes.
12) Furniture Polish for Hardwood Furniture: Mix one part lemon juice to 2 parts olive oil. Apply a small amount at a time to the furniture surface and buff with a soft, lint-free cloth (like an old t-shirt).

A lovely young woman spoke in Church yesterday. She talked about judging and Family. How quick are we to make judgments about a family member or a friend? Why do we look to the past to make our opinions about those closest to us?,,,,, he has gotten drunk so many times, can’t trust him at all,,, ,she is way to irresponsible and will never change….they spent their unexpected money windfall on ‘dumb’ things, they can’t handle their money,,, she’s let me down in the past,,,,, he’ll never amount to anything,,, Have we thought these things and others? What gives us the right?? Why is it we pick at the little scabs of mistakes and not extol the little virtues?? Lets all try to find something GOOD in those around us! Some may have a tough time finding these but take the time to TRY!! Do this with no expectations, not every good deed will be reciprocated. We all have said, “I won’t do something nice for so and so because they won’t do something nice for me” See how good it feels to be a nice person, besides it just may confuse that other person!!
NONE of us are PERFECT

Well the economy has taken a NOSE-DIVE and everyone is tightening the Belt!! Let us all PRAY for our new president elect. May not have been my choice but that's whats so great about living in a FREE COUNTRY!! I will PRAY everyday that he makes the right decisions for our country and for me! I don't always agree with his 'stuff' but I can agree to disagree and in this wonderful country of ours I am allowed to speak my mind!! YAA for the USA!!
Life is good, We are making it! We woke up alive this morning and hope to do it tomorrow and the next day and the next. But if I don't wake up, Know I did the best i could and loved all of your reading this and quite a few more. Tell everyone you love that, YES I DO LOVE YOU!!
Do the best you can everyday and you will have no regrets! if you regret it, do that for a moment and MOVE ON!!! Today is a GIFT, that's why we call it the present!

Child's Pain

Why do our children have to re-live the pains we have already felt? Why can’t there be a moratorium once the pain is felt in a family? Why must there be heart-break all over again, didn’t I have enough for all already? Or why can’t I be burdened with it again INSTEAD of my child? Heart-break does not leave visible scars like an accident does. We put on our ‘happy faces’ and go on with life, but it hurts as much as a broken bone or a gash in the skin. I just want my children to be happy, healthy and joyful. Is that too much to ask? I know that Heavenly Father only gives each of us as much as we can handle and when we think we can’t handle it, He gives us more strength, but I cannot help but hope for more happiness for my children, Selfish, I guess. In the meantime I can only pray for my children and hope they can weather the storms of life without capsizing or sinking. I pray everyday!And just keep loving them!!

This week we finally RE opened the Amber Unicorn!! Myrna has had it in her mind to re open for a few years now and her baby has finally been delivered!! After many months of garbage from the county permit people, we finally got the ok doky and loaded in the books and put most of them on the shelves and had the Grand Opening this past Saturday!!! It was wonderful!! Hundreds of friends, well wishers and BUYERS attended and it was so great to be back in the book biz!! Working is wonderful when you love what you do!

This Church is True and I am forever greatful for it being in my life

MY Prophet

Today we buried MY Prophet, Gorden B. Hinkley. He has been the 15th President & Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I joined the church in 1996 and he had been the Prophet since March 12, 1995. Before I had joined the Church I was able to tour the not yet dedicated Las Vegas LDS Temple. I was joined by my Father and my Grandmother & my Children. Grandma and I went thru twice because we knew we must have missed something, little did I know that a few years later I would be escorted there by by wonderful husband, Mark. There are no words to describe my feelings there and on the many return trips we have made. I have taken my parents names there and my grandparents and their parents and their parents. I am proud to be the first member of my family to know the Church! President Hinkley will be missed but I know that I will see him again. God be with us till we meet again!! God bless the new President & Prophet. I KNOW this Church is true and am thankful for Prophets, Seerers and Revalators. I am so proud to be a member of the Church, I leave this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

How Do They Know?
A row of bottles on my shelf
Caused me to analyze myself.
One yellow pill I have to pop
Goes to my heart so it won't stop.
A little white one that I take
Goes to my hands so they won't shake.
The blue ones that I use a lot
Tell me I'm happy when I'm not.
The purple pill goes to my brain
And tells me that I have no pain.
The capsules tell me not to wheeze
Or cough or choke or even sneeze.
The red ones, smallest of them all
Go to my blood so I won't fall.
The orange ones, very big and bright
Prevent my leg cramps in the night.
Such an array of brilliant pills

What are GrandParents?

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of her own. They like other people's.
A grandfather is a man & a grandmother is a lady!
Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them.
They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run.
It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.
When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars. They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on 'cracks.'
They don't say, 'Hurry up.'
Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes.
They wear glasses and funny underwear.
They can take their teeth and gums out.
Grandparents don't have to be smart.
They have to answer questions like 'why isn't God married?' and 'How come dogs chase cats?'. When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the onl y grown ups who like to spend time with us.
They know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time and kiss us even when we've acted bad.
A 6 year old was asked where his grandma lived. ''Oh,'' he said, ''she lives at the airport and when we want her we just go get her. Then when we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.''
Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things but I don't get to see him enough to get as smart as him!
It's funny when they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog.'

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, Food, Family, Friends,Food,Fun,FULL! Almost everyone was here for the big day, 3 Deep fried turkeys and a few days later, the house is quiet and all is well!! Grandchildren are wonderful, Children are great!! all of ours are fantastic! Here are my four angels! Every year I want to do the picture thing when they are all in town at the same time, as years go by i want the group to get bigger & bigger!! Yes I am a greedy Gramma!! And a very proud one too! I certainly had a wonderful week and hope you all did too

Finally Cooling Off

OK so it's over 100 everyday and it will be over 100 everyday for the next few MONTHS but look at the bright side, I have air conditioning in my house, truck and job!! and as I was hanging Laundry today It dried before I could get the next load out!!! Had fun tonight,,,went to a Engelbert Humperdink concert with my friend Karen but He was sick so it was cancelled and we went home but we had fun out to dinner before the non-concert!!! Life is good lately and I can only thenk my Heavenly Father for the wonderful Life I Have!!! I am blessed with a great hubby, wonderful kids and fantastic grandchildren! Also lots of good friends!! Sometimes life gets in the way of what Life is supposed to be,,,,I was letting the little bumps in the road get me down and didn't even try to struggle out of it.I was wallowing in all the "stuff" and forgetting what is important~ FAMILY~ While I sit in my mess I let family down I let things slip by that I shouldn't, I let everyone , including myself , down. I hate missing things, I hate being so far away I hate 'forgetting' I should be there for you all instead of apologizing for not. Things will change and will change NOW. My 'stuff" was in the cellar but I have hauled it all out into the sunshine to either blow away or blow the stink off. I am sorry to have missed important dates, times and people and this will be fixed!! I know it's hard work to get things done but I must dig in and do the work. I love you all and will do my best to let you all know it in more ways than one!! Forgive my mistakes and let me make it up. NOTHING is more important the my Family!!

The hustle bustle of Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas rush is upon us. I had a house-full for Turkey!! Small people are wonderful, makes me happy I am "the Grandma" Now the house is empty and quiet but I did love the noise and miss it, I haven't quite wiped off all the little finger-prints around the house, makes me smile to see them, knowing our house is warm and loving enough to welcome in all the family! It will be quiet for awhile till Christmas where we will once again have little people here. Still have to figure out where the tree will go so Santa knows where to set out the gifts!! Can't wait till then!!

Good-byes & Hellos

Today was a day of good bye and Hello. I bid farewell to a dear old friend as she went to join her family and friends in the Celestial Kingdom. It was a beautiful Memorial to a good women's life. 7 children, 27 grandchildren and 18 great grand children. I had only known this woman a few years but she was always a ray of sunshine when I saw her. I was blessed to have known her.
This evening I attended a Shower for a brand new baby boy!! Born premature a few weeks ago and lovingly given in adoption to a wonderful family I know.. Sweet souls exchanging greetings on their ways past each other. I am blessed by all the people in my life and all the wonderful things awaiting me as I continue on my path!

Sunday Afternoons

Here we are on another Sunday afternoon, Church all morning,Wonderful, Spiritual, I am fully fed with the Gospel!! I taught the Relief Society lesson today on Agency, so why do I want to 'force' all of our children to move within a block of our place?? I have friends whose children all join them for Sunday dinners and some who have their children right on the block, I feel envious, our sons and daughter have their lives somewhere else than here. I know this is right for them but I am feeling pangs of grandmotherhood! And mothering too. Hopefully this feeling will never go away, it just means I love my children and want them around!

Temple Blessings

Today is the 9th anniversary of Mark and I being sealed for time and eternity at the Las Vegas LDS Temple!! We went back today and had a wonderful,spiritual time there for a few hours!! Love it! We are truly blessed to be able to attend the Temple whenever we want to because it is so near by. I am so pleased to be sealed to my wonderful husband Mark!! We are a forever family!

Getting Better

The Doc said I am healing very well and can go back to work. Don't know if that's a good thing or not but am going back this Friday. There is some remodeling going on and walls coming down at work so Friday they will have my AP office all set up!! It's been over a month and I am not so sure I really want to go back to working but we will give it a try,,,,funny I was bored to death at first but find I like the time to my self now! Ya just never know what can keep ya happy from day to day!

Temple Day

Lacie and I got to go to the Las Vegas Temple yesterday! Uncle Mark met us in the parking lot and took my truck with the kids for an afternoon of Mickey D's and ariport plane watching. Lace and I had a wonderful spiritual time at the Temple and it was great. We met them later at Fry's and looked at IPOD's but didnt get one YET!! Gotta shop it for a month or so till we find the best price! Anyway it was a good day!!

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

And satin sandles, and say we've no money for butter.

I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired

And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells

And run my stick along the public railings

And make up for the sobriety of my youth.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain

And pick flowers in other people's gardens

And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat

And eat three pounds of sausages at a go

Or only bread and pickle for a week

And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry

And pay our rent and not swear in the street

And set a good example for the children.

We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?

So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Being Home!

Well I have been home after my hysterectomy for 3 weeks now and am about ready to go back to work but the Doc said not till after the 10th of October after I see him again!!!UGH I am so ready but I know I can't push it or I will be sorry. I have my wonderful Hubby here helping me everyday and my beautiful neice and her kids are here for a few days keeping me on my toes!! AHHH the young were meant to be parents!!! I can't keep up! Love them all tho!!!

Well I am officially over 50 now and have joined up with the local Red Hat Society, the Flying Red Hats,,,lovely ladies who have hubby's who fly!! I am sure it will keep me busy and let me show my 'crazy' side, if only in a flamboyant hat!!

Mark and Terry Rawlinson,,,Mark is a steel worker, Pool steel, He bends steel bars for a living, my favorite Superman!! he's a rightous Priesthood holder in the LDS church,He has his own 2 seater airplane that he tries to get in the air at least 7 days a week!! He also loves to fish, hunt coyotes and rabbits,4 wheel,practice-shoot his many guns,mow the lawn and take his wife out at least once a week (hey, the plane gets more time out w/ him) Gotta work on that!!
He is also a wonderful Grandfather to 3 fantastic grandchildren,Crista 5 Heath Jr 3 and Piper,2 and there's one more on the way!! (due in January) Our kids are great, Danny is the oldest at 33, married to lovely Kristy, David is next at 27,married to beautiful Belinda with the soon to be baby,Cristie is 25 and married to Heath Sr w/ Crista and Jr and then theres Bill 25 married to the fabulous Michelle and daughter Piper. Terry is a 50 yr old Disney fan, who collects anything Mickey. I am learning totie quilts by making some baby quilts to give as gifts. I work as accounts payable at Eagle promotions for the past 3 1/2 years and still like the job!! I am an avid E-bayer ,E-mailer, thrift store scrounger,garage sale maven!! I like to create new jewelry out of old junk jewelry I find at garage sales and thrift stores. I can create a meal in less than 30 mins after work coz I have a 30 mins ride home to think about what's in the cupboard and what goes with it!! I am a Relief Society Sister and I teach RS lessons. I love being a Grandma and wife! So thats us!! We live in the boonies outside Las Vegas in a small community that has lots of early Nevada history! We love it here coz you can see the stars at night and we can see forever out our back door!
